Open Table December 2022 FAQ - Thatch

Update 06.01.23

Following our report to the ICO, we have been informed that no further action would be necessary and that the investigation, guest follow up and on-going measures taken were satisfactory. As a business, we have reviewed all team training and will be undertaking a full internal review of all current security measures. This is above and beyond, several other measures taken to prevent this happening again.

Update 04.01.23

We have today been alerted that some guests have been contacted again by an individual impersonating a team member from The Thatch. We would like to remind guests of the importance of never disclosing personal information over the phone. We would also like to reassure guests that this is contact to old booking data that was accessed, and no new data has been affected.

Update  15.12.22

Following investigation by our booking platform, we are now in communication with the ICO (The UK’s data protection regulator) and will be working closely with them to ensure we have taken all the appropriate steps to protect guest information. We have made the appropriate steps to contact any guests who have been affected, and internal processes are being reviewed.

Phishing Scam Update

On 12th December 2022, we were made aware of a phishing scam, meaning an unauthorised individual has been able to access a limited amount of reservations data at the pub. As a result, phone numbers and some email addresses, for upcoming, and past bookings made directly with us or through online reservations may have been accessed, along with specifics about the reservation including booking information, date and time.

We have been alerted by several guests who have been contacted, asking for personal card information to take or arrange deposits and refunds. We want to assure guests that we will never contact you by telephone to take any credit card details. For large bookings, deposits and refunds are only ever made securely, via an online link sent through our enquiry platform.

We would also like to assure guests that we do not store any financial data, and the privacy and security of our guests is paramount to us.

All security measures have been taken to avoid any further disruption, but please do remain vigilant and let us know if you have been contacted using the details below.

What do I do if I’ve been contacted?

If you have been contacted by anyone claiming to be from The Thatch, with a request for card or bank information, please report this to your bank or card provider immediately as fraudulent activity. Please also let us know using the contact details below.

Who can I talk to about it?

If you have been contacted and want to discuss the incident, or how we are responding to it, please email our Pod Director, frazer.sutherland@peachpubs.com and Marketing Director rebekha.wilkins@peachpubs.com. Frazer or Bex will give you a call to discuss what they can further.

Do I need to report it?

Yes. Please ensure you report the activity with your bank or card provider. Keep an eye on any transactions that you do not recognise. If your bank request a crime reference number, you may also need to alert the police.

Is there anything more I can do to protect my information?

As a reminder, scams of this nature do unfortunately happen. Guests should never hand personal information over to an unknown caller and absolutely should never share passcodes that are sent via SMS.
